Description
A colorful digital photo of an Ape truck parked on a cobbled street in a little village in Tuscany.
The Piaggio Ape (Italian for bee), sometimes referred to as as Ape car or Ape truck is a three-wheeled light commercial vehicle produced in 1948 by Piaggio. After World War II most Italians lacked the finance to acquire a full-sized vehicle, so the idea came up of producing a light three wheeled vehicle. The vehicle is controlled with a scooter style handlebar and designed to seat one, although two with a tight fit. When used outside of villages, Apes are driven close to the kerb to allow traffic to pass. Apes come in vans and pickups for load carrying. This one is used for transporting demijohns (carboys) of wine.
