Description
Scarlet Robin and the dancing poppies. Textured oil painting of a young native Australian bird, a Scarlet Robin in a field of dancing pink poppies.
This impasto flower and baby bird painting was completed with a palette knife in thick, luscious oil paints.
The Australian Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang) is a small, eye-catching bird native to Australia, known for the male’s vivid red chest, black upperparts, and white forehead spot. Females are more subtle, with grey-brown plumage and a pale reddish-orange wash on the chest. These birds inhabit forests, woodlands, and scrub areas, especially in southern parts of Australia, including Tasmania.
Scarlet Robins feed primarily on insects, catching them on the ground or in mid-air. They often perch prominently on low branches or fences, scanning for prey. These birds are usually seen in pairs or small groups, particularly during the breeding season, when males perform courtship displays.
