Description
An oil painting of a black cat named Blackjack strutting across a brilliant red background.
The Scottish believe that a stray black cat's arrival to the home means prosperity. Black cats are also considered good luck in UK and Japan. It is believed that a lady who owns a black cat will have many suitors! Sailors consider a ship's cat which is black will bring good luck. Fishermen's wives would keep black cats in the belief that they would protect their husbands while at sea. Egyptian householders believed they would gain favor from Bastet (Egyptian cat goddess) by keeping black cats in their household. In early 17th century the English monarch Charles I, after the death of his treasured black cat, is said to have grieved that his luck was gone. The next day he was arrested and charged with high treason.
Blackjack is sure to bring you luck!
