Description
An impressionist oil painting of a Merino sheep on a brilliant red background. This Marino ewe will be a bright talking point for the kitchen, country cottage decor or the sheep farmer.
The Merino sheep is prized for its wool. It is believed they may have originated in North Africa, but its wool was already highly valued in the middle ages. Merino wool is the softest and finest of any sheep. Merino rams have long spiral horns growing close to the head. Their wool is suitable for blending with silk, possum and cashmere.
The Merino is very resilient and versatile, adapting to Australias harsh climate conditions. In Australia there are 4 basic strains of Merino sheep: Peppin Merino, South Australian Merino, Saxon Merino and Spanish Merino. Sheep breeders in Australia often classify their sheep as Peppin or non-Peppin. The Wanganella sheep breed had been established by the Peppin brothers near Deniliquin, New South Wales, in 1861. The introduction of a single French ram is acknowledged as one of the most important events in the development of the Peppin stud and makes this ram the sire in the history of Australias wool industry.
Canvas art prints can be hung straight on the wall and they do not need framing. Animal kitchen prints will add life and color to the French country kitchen or restaurant.
Sheep prints are available as stretched canvas prints, acrylic, metal, framed, posters, phone cases, greeting cards, duvet covers, tote bags, beach bags, shower curtains and throw pillows.
This impressionist Merino sheep painting has been featured in the Fine Art America groups, Elite Artists, Art is Art and Animal Mania.
